Dear SunLovers,

We’re very pleased to announce that together with our Slovenian partner SONCE energija and a consortium of partner companies, we have been selected for an R&D project — supported by EU grants amounting to €4,659,682 ($5.5 million USD) for research into how blockchain technology tools with science approaches and a multi-value service design can be used to boost Demand Response (DR) through increased community level consumer engagement.

What exactly is DR and why do we want to boost it?

Demand response in its most traditional form turns energy users into “virtual power plants” by adjusting their energy consumption during specific times to relieve stress on the grid. Instead of turning on another energy source such as a power plant, we can use DR to turn off electricity demand, thus negating the need for additional supply. Through this mechanism, energy consumers contribute to the stability of the grid and are compensated for doing so, effectively being paid for NOT using electricity — typically for short amounts of time (anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours) — which helps to avoid the need to buy expensive peaking power from the wholesale market or the turning on of another expensive fossil fuel-fired power plant. …

More than a revamped design

Dear SunLovers,

Last week we made an announcement regarding our new invoicing system which we have since rolled out. We’d like to thank all the parties that made it possible for us to give the SunContract invoice a face lift. From our local partner SONCE, to the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) which partly financed the rolling out of this new invoice, we are eternally grateful.

What will the new electricity bill look like?

The purpose of this article is to get our energy customers and community members more acquainted with this invoice, how it differs from the previous invoicing system and to loop you in on the upcoming changes that come with this new system. …

The off-grid mountain cottage is now, by the installed HES, self-sufficient and sustainable

The SunContract team and its partner SONCE have set up the first solar hybrid energy system in the heart of Gozd Martuljek, fully financed by the company. Gozd Martuljek is located in the Upper Carniola region of Slovenia.

What is a Solar Hybrid System?

Solar hybrid energy systems are systems that combine solar power from a photovoltaic source and store energy in battery systems for continuous operations. For high reliability, they can be combined with another power generating energy source. In the case of our client, the major source of energy is a solar power plant to produce electricity and a LiFePO4 battery for energy storage connected with a hybrid inverter.

Dear SunLovers,

At SunContract, we are working alongside public officials to help reduce the impact of COVID-19 in our community by additionally helping small business owners and households to reduce their electricity bills.

With an unprecedented number of people staying home to prevent the spread of COVID-19, we believe people should be focused on keeping their families safe and not on what time of day they should do laundry or wash dishes in order to save on energy.

“According to the latest data, more than 5000 users are currently registered on the SunContract electricity marketplace, which is the first and so far the only electricity marketplace in Slovenia — launched in April 2018.

Residential, commercial and industrial energy is bought and sold on the platform. Last year, they closed a one million euro deal from launching in April, to the end of the year, and this year, according to Gregor Novak, SunContract’s CEO, the trend is even better.
